Note

Trey had his manly-man getaway last weekend filled with golf, sports talk, more golf, poker, and.....more golf. When I woke up the morning he left, I found this and he bought the girls some yummy cupcakes as a gift. Seriously, he rocks.

It's Fall Y'All

Landry is so smart. While playing out in our backyard she got chilly, so she decided to warm up by putting on her jacket. I'm sure that'll solve (half) her problem!

I Can't Sleep...

Apparently that isn't genetic though. Landry wins the award for "completely out of it" sleep! These two spent close to an hour cracking up together before being told they had to get some shut eye.

Putting Stuff Off

I've been putting off cleaning out our medicine cabinet because there's so much stuff in there. Well, it was actually quite simple.

When 90% of your meds are expired, it's actually easy to organize! Sheesh....talk about being a bit behind!

However, I think I just added "labeler" to my Christmas list :).

Ugh

I'm cleaning today. Sick children inspire me to disinfect. I'm currently in the medicine cabinet and came across this.

Darn it all if I still don't miss him like crazy. I really want a new dog....but still just really wish it could be my sweet Jakey.

Monday Malaise

Irritable-check. Falling asleep at random times-check. Asking for puke bucket-check (and using it). It's a party here!

Who wants to come over?? Monsters Inc. is the movie of choice!

Hailey Took This

She saw that Landry had fallen asleep and told me she just had to take a picture of her because she's so cute. I agree.

And then that led to a discussion of how Landry has always sucked her thumb and how she did that while she was in my belly. This then led to Hailey saying that she wishes she remembered what it felt like to swim in blood. I gave an intelligent response of, "Huh?". She then said, "you know, I wonder what it was like when I swam in blood inside of you.". I started to answer that question and then realized where that might head.....and to be honest, I just wanted to watch the rest of the Rangers game, so at this point Hailey knows that babies don't swim in blood and that her belly button use to have a cord on it which is where she ate. I'm sure she's completely confused forever. Maybe I should wait until her father is here because I'm sure he'd love to listen to this!! :)

Sometimes I Wonder...

Is life supposed to be this busy? Is it just a fact that insanity follows young children or is it more self imposed because we are just doing what everyone else is? This is the question Trey and I have been debating lately.

I played tons of sports growing up and so did Trey. I always assumed my kids would do the same. But as I cheered on my Reesie at a soccer game today and watched the other team's coach scream at their kids with the goal of beating the tar out of our girls, I found myself asking, "what in the heck are we doing here?". I'm all about teaching her to work with others, take instructions from others and for her to develop new skills, but should I expose her to the ridiculousness of other adults' behavior yet? Should we give up traveling on the weekends and doing family oriented activities to do this? I'm leaning towards HECK NO at this point.

I find that I'm such a different parent than I had imagined I'd be. Rather than wanting to expose my kids to all kinds of sports, I want to expose them to all kinds of character building experiences. Rather than wanting to run all over the place to enroll my kids in a gagillion different activities, I'd rather hang out together and focus on helping them find where their gifts lie and then go with the "less is more" approach. I want to look back someday and know that I spent as much time with them as possible (and not in a car while being the exhausted family taxi driver), guiding them towards having a purpose on this Earth, rather than teaching them to be a part of the rat race. Plus I've never been one who cares about doing what society dictates and I don't think I'll start now.

The older I get, the tougher choices become. Life use to be more black and white. I had many answers. Now, there's a lot of gray. I told this once to someone and their response was this, "I believe that's called....maturity."

I couldn't agree more.

Accessories

When I walk into a store full of jewelry and scarves and belts and stuff....I feel like a lost puppy dog and I get dizzy. When Hailey walks into the store with me, her internal happy meter goes through the roof and then she starts picking things out for my outfit. I'm hoping this means she will coordinate all my outfits in about.....2 years.

Silly Landry

Landry and I like to read books before her nap. She has the greatest sense of humor and loves to make us laugh. This is her typical happy-go-lucky personality.

Words With Hailey

Hailey: Mom, I know where the best place EVER is.
Me: Where?
Hailey: Heaven. It is. It's the best place on Earth.
Me: Heaven is the best place ever and isn't it cool that we get to go there someday?
Hailey: Yep. And, you know what, I know that there's something that NOBODY ANYWHERE knows anything about.
Me: (getting ready for the religious conversation to continue) What?
Hailey: The inside of an eyeball. NOBODY KNOWS WHAT IS IN THERE!!!

Seven year olds. Love it.

When I Tried...

To get to the garage this morning, I had three girls blocking my way and saying cheers together.

It's a beautiful Saturday here and we are hoping for a big Aggie football and Ranger baseball win today!!
