Hailey is learning about bats in school this week, so we were discussing it at dinner tonight.
Me: Hailey did you talk some more about bats today?
Hailes: Yep.
Me: Did you talk about the word nocturnal?
Hailes: Yes, it means being awake at night and bats are awake at night.
Me: Did you talk about other animals that are awake at night?
Hailes: Yep, alligators.
Me: Yes! Any others?
Trey: Mommy is nocturnal. Did you know that Hailey?
Thanks Trey....can't wait until that comes up in preschool this week :).

Sweet Hailey
There is a boy in Hailey's preschool class who is moving to Norway this week. We bought him a gift to play with on the plane ride and he opened all of his gifts today during class. When Hailey came home. She immediately got out her markers and scissors and went to work. When she was done she brought this picture to me (she even decorated the border of it by making lots of cuts so it's cute). She said she wanted to mail this to her friend so he would have something from her and she said she colored it all in green.....because it is his favorite color. I absolutely love how thoughtful, detailed, and kind this sweet 5 year old is....I'm so very proud of her.

She's Up And At 'Em Again!
Boy....Hailey went down hard, but now she's back to her perky self! Her fever broke late yesterday and her appetite started to come back. I thought it might be a fluke, but after a good night of sleep, she awoke today as her usual self! She, of course, did not go to school today, but when Reese got home it took her less than an hour to flip over a laundry basket on top of Reese and climb on top of it to trap her sister underneath. And soon after that she was screaming at Landry and telling her that she's really loud (odd?). And when I asked if she wanted to lay down and watch some TV, she said no and proceeded to zoom up and down our long hallway to show me that she likes to run. Ahhhhh.....back to life! It's amazing how kids can get so sick, so fast and how they can heal that quickly too....THANK GOODNESS!

Balloons...
If you're five and really sick with the swine flu, this'll definitely help the situation. Hailey's Granny and Dan sent this today to cheer her up. It worked.

A few notes from the past 24 hours.
1. Hailey is sleeping on a comfy pallet in our room (she told me tonight she thinks she's moving in with me and Trey....uhhhh...not happening). When I gave her clothes to change into yesterday (a big t-shirt), she got upset that I didn't bring a matching skirt to wear with it. I said, "Hailey, you're burning hot and you're laying under covers." She said, "I know, but I always like to wear skirts." You can put a virus in a girl, but you can't remove the princess. Some things never change.
2. Hailey HATES the taste of her medicine. It takes like (and I quote), "blood and dirt." Mmmmmmm...
3. Trey has already taken a Nyquil cold/flu pill tonight because he swears he can feel the flu coming on and he's just sure he's going to get it. I didn't mean to laugh at him, but I might have. However, he has yet to get his seasonal flu shot, which I got for myself and the girls weeks ago. Men vs. women....there's a difference. On the other hand, I find myself not washing my own hands enough and probably getting too close to Hailey and if I go down with this....not good for the Monday-Friday functioning of the house when Trey has to be at work. He might get the last laugh on this one.
4. Landry is getting all four of her top front teeth in, all at the same time. There has been lots of neediness here.
5. Reese continues to be her full-of-energy self. Today she took the cleaner that I had left in the bathroom (it was a non-toxic one) and sprayed it ALLLLLLL over the bathroom after I had cleaned it....on the cabinets, the floor, the walls, the doors....and when I was vacuuming, she tried to play jump rope with the cord. And when I was dusting, she kept asking me to spray her with the Endust...I did laugh at that. And let me make sure to mention that Hailey began screaming for me today when I was vacuuming. I didn't hear it until I shut off the machine and went running into the bedroom to find that Reese had taken off her own shirt and was holding her shirt in her hand, was standing over Hailey and moving her arm in a large circle, like a windmill and was smacking Hailey with it everytime her arm came around. Hailey was still pretty weak at this point and just sat there and cried and screamed. Ahhhh....siblings.
6. And me....well, Trey came home tonight and relieved me from Swinefluville and I got to go play a make-up tennis match. I succeeded in hitting a baseline overhead directly into the back of my partner's head....really, really, hard. I'm blaming the Swine Flu for that too.
Stay tuned....

One Goes Down
It wasn't a question of IF our kids would get sick this year....more of when. Hailey has been hit first. She woke up sick and I took her in to find out she has the "A flu strain" which is probably the swine flu. Ugh. Poor girl feels rotten and my stomach is churning out of worry (I hope it's worry that is). Here's a pic of her temporary home.

At least the Dr's office offers some whale mural humor while you wait.

Here is Hailes waiting on the dr. Think she feels awful?

Get better Hailey!!!

Hailey And Clothes
Hailey has always had an opinion when it comes to her wardrobe. She likes to match her clothes to her headbands to her tights. I normally just let her do her own thing. Until today....she came downstairs in this and said, "Mom, do you have a pair of jeans for me? This dress is too short on the bottom." Ummmmm.....Hailey, the short part isn't what concerns me....

A Mother's Instinct
There are certain feelings built-in to motherhood. One of them...I'm fighting right now. It's the instinct where you feel sick when you have to leave the kids. I always get this way if Trey and I are going to get away for a few days together. It's that awful feeling in my gut that won't go away. The feeling that wonders if the kids are going to be okay, if I'm going to be okay. I start to wonder if I should go. Is it worth it? What if something happens? Fear. That's what it is. I know I have to live life and I can't give up fun opportunities out of fear, but goodness, it feels just sickening.
This weekend will be the first time that I'm going away without any children or a husband. When I say the first time....I mean the first time in over 5 years. Yep, since Hailey has been born, I've never been away from both the kids and Trey. Nothing intentional...I just haven't ever done it. Kind of crazy when I think about it. I have the opportunity to go to Corpus Christi because my mixed doubles tennis team qualified for sectionals. It'll be great fun. I know it will. I'll get to play lots of tennis. I cannot think of anything else I'd rather be doing if I'm away from the family. It's just that feeling.....ughhh!!! However, I'm going....and I hope to report great news when I return!
